The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles, Day 1)

Title: The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles, Day 1)
Author: Patrick Rothfuss
Year First Published: 2009

Synopsis: The New York Times bestselling novel.

This is the riveting first-person narrative of Kvothe, a young man who grows to be one of the most notorious magicians his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard.

Expressions are mostly modified to fit the invented culture. Not overdone and not overly graphic. Very little. More is hinted at than plainly described. Almost painful (in a good way) how innocently Rothfus approaches this topic with the main character.
Characterization Plot Overall Rating
This book as all about the development of the characters and their relationships. Book one sets up a lot of sub-plots and unfinished business. Really enjoyed this. Not a cookie-cutter fantasy book. It's deep and time consuming but worth the investment.
I listened to the audio book alone and then again with my 10-year old son. Nick Podehl brings this book to life with his vocal abilities. Outstanding.
