Burned

Title: Burned
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Year First Published: 2007
Page Count: 544
Synopsis: Raised in a religious -- yet abusive -- family, Pattyn Von Stratten starts asking questions -- about God, a woman's role, sex, love. She experiences the first stirrings of passion, but when her father catches her in a compromising position, events spiral out of control. Pattyn is sent to live with an aunt in the wilds of Nevada to find salvation and redemption. What she finds instead is love and acceptance -- until she realizes that her old demons will not let her go.

Profanity Violence Sexual Content
The profanity used is not in as great a quantity as in other works by the author, however it does make a strong appearance in certain situations. There is a great deal of domesticated violence involved, mostly between the father and his wife, which is later carried on towards his oldest daughters. There is significantly less sexual content in this book than her other books.
Characterization Plot Overall Rating
Generally good characterization; however, most of them tend to lean towards one extreme or another, such as the father being completely evil and the aunt and boyfriend being wholly "good." Plot is good but can drag at certain points. Very good book about finding oneself and questioning their origins.
Personal Opinion: Not my favorite but one I would like to read again.
