Synopsis:

As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.

I'm not sure how valued my review will be to others because I detest explicit sexual content and excessive profanity and refuse to read books that are (in my opinion) flawed because of it. There's a revoltingly descriptive scene with a stripper that ended my attempt to read this book (which is really disappointing since I really wanted to read it).

Sadly, this deep story is swarming with language and strong sexual content. It received such great reviews and I was excited to read it. Now I will be embarrassed to tell anyone I've actually read it. It was a good story but I don't feel comfortable recommending it.

I really wanted to read this book. It probably has an awesome story I just couldn't take the profanity and sexual content.
