Author: Brad Mathews
Year First Published: 2009
Page Count: 413
Synopsis: Michael O’Kinlay is struggling to redeem himself and his reputation two years after a teenage girl disappeared on his watch. He works at a high school as an attendance tracker—an often tedious job. Two events lead to a gruesome discovery in the boys’ bathroom in the school. Michael is trying to make sense of a misleading newspaper opinion article and meets a girl who obviously knows more than she is willing to admit about the two-year-old case of the missing girl. The discovery in the boys’ bathroom quickly develops into a crime scene. Without the consent of his boss, Michael joins forces with Captain Ustick of the local police on a trail to uncover exactly what happened in the bathroom. One series of events leads to another as Michael finds himself in the center of an escalating mystery that may end up costing him not only his job, but his life.
