The Hard Way: A Reacher Novel

Title: The Hard Way: A Reacher Novel
Author: Lee Child
Year First Published: 2010
Page Count: 400
Synopsis:

Jack Reacher was alone, the way he liked it, soaking up the hot, electric New York City night, watching a man cross the street to a parked Mercedes and drive it away. The car contained one million dollars in ransom money because Edward Lane, the man who paid it, would do anything to get his family back.

Lane runs a highly illegal soldiers-for-hire operation. He will use any tool to find his beautiful wife and child. And Jack Reacher is the best manhunter in the world.

On the trail of vicious kidnappers, Reacher learns the chilling secrets of his employer’s past—and of a horrific drama in the heart of a nasty little war. He knows that Edward Lane is hiding something. Something dirty. Something big. But Reacher also knows this: He’s already in way too deep to stop now. And if he has to do it the hard way, he will.

John Rambo
Profanity Violence Sexual Content
Consistent uses of s**t, d**m, b*****d, and b***h throughout. The most violent Jack Reacher book I've read. Descriptions of grueling war crimes. Also a man tries to rupture a young girl's hymen with a potato peeler and give his pregnant wife an abortion with a coat hanger. He doesn't get to it, thankfully. Two sex scenes, about a page each. Descriptions of lingerie and breasts in them. The couple showers together on the following morning of one such scene.
Characterization Plot Overall Rating
Jack Reacher is a solid character and Lee Child is good at making you hate the bad guys. The Jack Reacher books all have basically the same plot, but each one is unique in its own ways, and this one is no exception. A fast paced book with great plot twists, but lots of violence and some sex.
I wouldn't recommend this for kids, that's for sure. If you want the cleanest Lee Child novel possible, go for "Bad Luck and Trouble".
