Profanity Violence Sexual Content
I am fairly certain there was not one profane word The descriptions of the fighting were a bit graphic. Some beheadings, etc. Nothing gratuitous, but a bit too much for me. Out of nowhere the two main characters (who are not married) get a little frisky and the descriptions were some TV-14 surprises. It seemed to come out of nowhere and was a bit out of place amongst the strong moral message of the book. Spoiler alert: When they were married, the descriptions of their honeymoon bedroom activities were very sensual, included some undressing and led right up to sex. Nothing R rated.
Characterization Plot Overall Rating
The two main characters were too perfect, but it was not enough of an issue to detract from the excellent storyline and imaginative world. The love story was also a bit overdone, but I tolerated it because the characters love was central to their power over evil. However, it had a sort of repetitive pattern to it. It was like the same exchange between them occurred many, many times in slightly different settings. It was a little boring at times. The concept behind this book was excellent and the story took off really quickly. I was totally hooked on their quest. Then, just past the middle of the book it was a long, drawn out, overly detailed description of every detail of their days. It wasn't building suspense. I got past it and the story picked back up with a good suspenseful ending paving the way for the next book. Honestly a very good core story and characters of this book. If you don't mind a little overly descriptive violence and some TV-14-rated sensuality, and a few long boring sections then you will probably like it more than me.
This book has a very Christian good vs. evil plot and wholesome message. It goes a bit too far for me, though I admit to being very particular about violence and sexuality in my fiction.
