Just bought it...How does it compare to The Robe

I read The Robe several years ago and enjoyed that, but I did not even realize that this book was by the same author until I was holding it in my hands. How does it compare? It seems to be a completely different type of story. |

It kind of threw me off guard at the end of the first chapter when (spoiler alert) the "main character" dies. I think I am really going to enjoy this book. |
